One of the most frequent questions I get asked is – how do you cook tofu? Many people find it very bland, and to be honest, without any seasoning and flavouring it is!  This easy air fried tofu recipe will hopefully change your mind about tofu.

It’s ready in less 15 minutes. And don’t worry if you don’t have an air fryer, you can make it in the oven too.

Nutritional benefits of tofu:

Tofu is rich in plant protein, making it a really important ingredient if you’re on a plant-based diet. It’s also a complete protein (containing all 9 essential amino acids).

It also provides important minerals including iron, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.

Tofu is also very low in fat.

What ingredients do you need for easy air fried tofu?

  • Tofu
  • Cornflour (cornstarch)
  • Sesame oil
  • Soy sauce
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper

You can play around with how you want to serve it.  Here I’ve served with noodles and a selection of veggies – all of which you can prepare whilst the tofu is cooking.

Try it for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments below.

Recipe Tips

  • This recipe works very well for meal prep. You can box it up into portions and keep in the fridge.
  • It will last for about 3 days in a sealed tub in the fridge.  You can either eat cold or warm up, whichever you prefer.
  • This can also be made in a regular oven. Bake at the same temperature for about 20 mins.

Ingredients

Ingredients for the tofu:

  • 1 large block of firm tofu (about 400g)
  • 1 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper

Other ingredients I used:

  • Noodles
  • Edamame beans
  • Avocado
  • Carrots
  • Spinach leaves
  • Sesame seeds
  • Spring onions
  • Limes

Instructions

  • Drain the tofu and pat dry to take out as much moisture as you can (if you have a tofu press use this). Chop into small cubes. Mix with the other ingredients and stir to coat well.
  • Add to the air fryer and cook for about 12-14 mins at 180C/350F, shaking halfway through. If you use a regular oven, bake at the same temperature for about 20 mins.
  • Serve with noodles and vegetable of your choice.

Notes

  • The nutritional content is only for a portion of the tofu not the other ingredients I have served it with.
  • Depending on the size of your air-fryer you can double the portions if you are serving more than 2.
  • This recipe works very well for meal prep as you can box this up into portions with salads or noodle/ rice bowls.
  • If you don’t eat all of this in one sitting then it will last for about 3 days in a sealed tub in the fridge. You can either eat cold or warm up, whatever you prefer.
